The Stories We Tell Ourselves

For some time now, I’ve been finding dimes. It’s been often enough that I finally got curious and looked it up. What I found immediately made me think of my dad.

I discovered that finding a dime can be a message from someone who has passed on, letting you know you’re on the right path, encouraging you to keep going, or simply reminding you of someone you love.

Either that, or it’s my dad from beyond trying to help me build a retirement fund, one dime at a time. 😳

Whatever the explanation, the dimes have become like a pause button. Every time I find one, I pick it up, smile, think about him, and quietly say, “Thanks, Dad.”

They all live in a little dish where I can see them every day.

Whether they’re messages from my dad or simply loose change that somehow keeps ending up in my path doesn’t really matter.

What matters is that every dime reminds me of someone who believed in me and never doubted I’d find my way.

I suspect we all have something like that. A feather catches your eye, a butterfly lingers nearby, a song comes on the radio at exactly the right moment. They’re sweet little reminders that connect us to the people, memories, and moments that have shaped us.

Maybe that’s why I like believing this story.

I’d love to hear your story. We all have something that reminds us of someone we’ve loved, or a moment that still makes us smile.
