Apparently it was time.

Last week I wrote about how ridiculously busy things have been in the studio, and how it was probably time to stop coming up with new ideas. Well, that was an epic fail. Except this isn’t a new idea at all. It’s an old one that finally seems to have found its time.

I’ve wanted to create my own planner for years. For some reason, though, it always seemed a little daunting. Maybe there was something about creating something meant to carry someone through 365 days that made it feel like a very big undertaking, especially knowing how personal the way we use our planners and journals can be.

I’ve been bullet journaling for years, usually with a pretty minimalist approach, and that was always where I imagined starting. I knew I wanted something simple and useful, but also something lovely to spend time with. A little colour, a little whimsy, and some words of encouragement scattered through the year.

A few weeks ago, I decided to finally give it a try. First I tried adapting existing templates, but that didn’t feel right. If I was finally going to make my own planner, I wanted it to actually be mine, not my version of somebody else’s. So I started from scratch and somehow created something that felt far too stuffy. Again, not it.

And then something clicked. Instead of thinking about everything I could put into a planner, I started thinking about what I would actually like to see every day, and that meant keeping it simple. There are lots of features I could add, and maybe someday I will, but right now the most important thing is to actually make it.

And suddenly, after all these years, it’s coming together. It’s still very much a work in progress, but for the first time, I can see a version of the planner I’ve envisioned for so long becoming a reality.

Maybe some of the things we keep meaning to do aren’t actually overdue. Maybe they just weren’t ready yet.

I’m sure most of us have a story like this. Plans that have been in the wings for years. What’s yours? 😁
